Hello – Summerfield Education Centre believes that every young person can achieve their potential and as such, we have developed a careers programme headed up by Maria Galbraith currently studying Level 7 Careers Leader. Mrs Tina Whitehouse has strategic leadership for Careers and Mrs Nicola Capok is Designated Lead overseeing the programme.
Whilst at Summerfield Education Centre all pupils will have the opportunity to develop skills needed for future working life and to look at and explore options.
How do we know we are doing ok?
The 8 Gatsby Benchmarks play a key role in young people’s aspirations and promoting their success in their Career Pathway. They Gatsby Benchmarks are a statutory requirement for all schools to work towards and to help their pupils achieve these.
At Summerfield Education Centre in 2019/ 2020 we have gained 100% achievement in 6 of the Gatsby Benchmarks. In order to achieve this success pupils have taken part in:
Careers talks from RAF and Army.
Attended The Skills Show.
Done Volunteering work.
Taken part in Barclays Life Skills workshops.
Attended Careers Interviews.
Attended The Solihull Apprenticeship Show.
Looked at Colleges.
Taken part in work experience.
Advice from an Independent Careers Advisor.
This year is going to be challenging for many pupils to access the services we offered last year as business are just not able to take work experience or have extra students in their buildings, as a consequence. Visits will be planned virtually as will work experience and we are planning on brining employers to Summerfield – following COVID-19 procedures to speak to the pupils as a whole. Look out the newsletter, Twitter, texts and letters home to advice you.
